From the backyard to Black Box Theatre – Our First Rehearsal in the Old Ambulance Station

After weeks of running scenes on Caitie and Riley’s back deck—where the main distractions were the chilly nights, quick trips to the local IGA to pick up more energy drinks, and Skye (Caitie's adorable dog) trying to join the cast—Staged Theatre Co has officially moved rehearsals for You're Not Special into the Black Box Theatre in Nambour.
The vibe? Immediate upgrade. There’s something about stepping into a real theatre that makes everything click—especially with a script like this one. Sam O’Sullivan’s You're Not Special is a dark comedy that slices into the messy, tech-saturated world of modern relationships.
This story is sharp, funny, and unsettlingly relatable (prepare to cringe in recognition).
Riley Scott plays Dan: charming, self-deprecating, and maybe a little too used to the comfort of curated connections. Tyraeli Langley is Ellie: direct, disillusioned, and refreshingly no-nonsense. Caitie Elliott is April-May: the dog-walker/uni student with a key to Dan and Ellie's apartment. Together, they’re navigating a world where intimacy is performative, attention is monetised, and everyone’s a little too available.
We'll miss the occasional bark mid-monologue (Skye really gave it her all), but rehearsing in the Black Box is giving us the freedom and space we needed to truly step into our roles. The production is now in full swing.
Catch us at the Black Box Theatre in Nambour🗓 July 11–13 & 18–20🎟 Tickets are selling fast—don’t wait, grab yours here!
And hey—did you hear us on Zinc 96.1? We spilled some tea about the show (spoiler: it’s not actually about being special).
See you there.
